Becki Porter-Harmon

MA BCC, LPC

Becki is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of VA and is also registered to see clients in Florida by Telehealth. In addition, she is a board certified Life Coach. Over 45 years of experience in the helping profession has provided her with many valuable opportunities to develop an array of skills and to work with clients of all ages and vast ranges of concerns and challenges.

To her work with all clients, Becki brings an approach of compassion, hope, and a strength-based focus, combined with intentionally tailoring the work to the individual needs of the client.

In keeping with the vision of Star Point Counseling to use interventions and help that resonates most with the specific client; Becki’s clinical work may include CBT, Psycho-dynamic Therapies, Trauma Informed Therapies and Expressive Therapies, among others. Additionally, her experience has shown that incorporating Mindfulness and Somatic interventions is invaluable to helping clients experiencing a variety of concerns – including traumatic experiences, stress, anxiety disorders and loss/grief. Other issues Becki helps clients address are life transitions, depression, substance abuse recovery, and self-esteem/identity struggles. She also enjoys working with parents, particularly those navigating the season of parent relationships with adult children. Past training and experience in using spiritually integrated therapy prepares her to include this as part of the treatment experience – but only at the request of the client and in keeping with the client’s personal belief system.

She mainly uses an individual modality. However, offers couples counseling as her schedule allows.

Other interests: Becki is experienced in providing seminars, training and retreats on specific topics of interest to community groups, organizations or individual groups. She is trained to help a prospective client explore Life Coaching, as opposed to therapy, should that be an interest.

As a registered approved supervisor for those seeking licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor or a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of Virginia, Becki is happy to discuss contracting for this service with individual Residents for licensure.

Becki Porter-Harmon is a board certified Life Coach. Coaching is differentiated from therapy/counseling by the purpose. While therapy is aimed at facilitating emotional healing, including potential exploration of past issues and inter-personal dynamics; Life Coaching does is not, as it is intentionally future oriented – towards goals, strategies and overcoming motivation challenges. Please Note: The fee schedule and the structure of appointments for Life Coaching is different for counseling/therapy and includes a structured contract. The clinician can make a determination if coaching is appropriate versus therapy.
